An animal rights group has selected a dog owned by a South Carolina woman as the cutest mutt in the nation.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced Thursday that Stella, a rescue dog owned by 26-year-old Jamie Hood of Summerville, edged out nine other finalists and about 1,000 dogs entered in the Cutest Mutt Alive contest.
Stella, a rat terrier and papillon mix, will be featured on the organization's Web site and in an upcoming issue of its magazine.
It's the second year the group has held the contest designed to encourage people to adopt dogs from animal shelters.
UPDATE:On the PETA website shortly after noon, Thursday, someone identified as Jamie wrote: "Hooray! Congratulations to my Stella Bella Jellybean! Mommy loves you!"
