The Government has vehemently dismissed the authenticity of the photograph shown on Al-Jazeera on the killing of terrorists captured during the final stages of the Sri Lankan war with tiger terrorists.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the Government regretted to note that Aljazeera itself has announced that they carried this footage unverified. The Minister told the Government news web site that there was nothing new but bits and pieces of what was shown on Chanel 4.
Al Jazeera showed photographs of bodies and execution-style killings allegedly captured during the final stages of the war in Sri Lanka. But they themselves announced that they were unable to verify its authenticity. Minister Rambukwella emphasized that when these were first shown on Channel 4, they dealt with it and scientifically proved that the footage was fabricated. Therefore, he added that the credibility of the footage cannot be taken seriously. Minister Rambukwella noted that it was regretted that Al jazeera had run this fabricated story while the Government of Sri Lanka had already dealt with it and proved it was nothing but a farce.
