The Jaffna polity has revealed to the Reconciliation Commission of the enormous difficulties they encountered as a result of ruthless terrorism.
The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by the President to entertain proposals on behalf of future reconciliation of the nation is now holding its sittings in Jaffna. Our correspondent reported that a large number of civilians testified before the Commission yesterday as well as today. The Commission is meeting in Jaffna after holding sittings in Colombo as well as in areas in the Wanni and in the Eastern Province. The Jaffna civilians referred to the hardships they confronted.
Commission head former Attorney C.R. De Silva said that he would appraise the President about the problems the Jaffna polity faced and resolve them. The Commission has extended its time period to accept written representations from the Public. The mandate of the Commission was extended at the behest of the President.
