The JVP says that a group of party supporters including students from the Rajarata University who went to Jaffna today (15) to participate in a signature collection campaign has been taken in for questioning by the Jaffna police.
JVP Propaganda Secretary, parliamentarian Vijitha Herath told the media that the students had traveled to Jaffna to participate in the campaign organized by the ‘We are Sri Lankans’ movement to urge the government to ensure the safety of Tamil detainees and to reveal their names.
The Rajarata University Students’ Council Vice President N.H.P.D. Navaratne meanwhile has told the media that the students were taken away by the police when they were conducting the campaign to collect signatures of the general public to urge the government to reveal the names of the Tamil detainees.
A similar protest was held in Colombo last month.
