Tree planting continues

The National Tree Planting Campaign to mark the inauguration of the 2nd term of the President will be held throughout the country.

3000 plants of different varieties were planted in the Air Force Camp premises in Ekala. A number of Parliamentarians and Ministers including Basil Rajapaksa, Felix Perera and Prasanna Ranatunga participated in the occasion. A tree planting programme was held in the Naval Camp as well. 30,000 thousand saplings were planted in the Navy Camp premises in North, East, Western, Vayamba, Southern and Central Provinces. Trees were also planted at the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry premises. Tree panting programmes in the proposed beach garden and several schools in the Vaikkala beach were held under the patronage of Minister Milroy Fernando.

The main tree planting ceremony in the Matara District was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera in the Palatuwa area. Trees were planted in many schools in the Ampara area. 180,000 saplings were planted in the Matale District. 1000 saplings were planted in 210 post office premises in the Anuradhapura District under the patronage of Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake. A programme to plant 15,000 saplings in Kalawana, Ayagama and Nivitigala areas were held under the patronage of Parliamentarian Janaka Wakkumbura.
