The people in the Western Province have honoured President Mahinda Rajapaksa appreciating the contributions made by him towards the nation.
The ‘Janmabhimani’ felicitation ceremony organized to mark the occasion was held at the Sathutu Uyana isle in the Beire Lake in the premises of Gangarama temple in Colombo. The function was organized by the Western Provincial Council to mark the assumption of office by the President for his second term. Patriotic songs, a discussion of intellectuals and a cultural show added colour to the event. The President was presented with an award under the patronage of the Chief Minister of the Western Province Prasanna Ranatunga, Ministers and Provincial Council Members in appreciation of his national service. Members of the Maha Sangha, clergy of other religions, Ministers, Parliamentarians and Artistes were present.
