The National Exhibition marking the peaceful situation in the country under the theme “Nidahasa” opened at the Independence Square this afternoon. The opening took place under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
Opening the Exhibition, the Prime Minister emphasised that the country was now enjoying real freedom. He pointed out that the war which continued for 30 years had been ended. An environment has been created for all people to live in a peaceful atmosphere.
The Prime Minister referred to the massive development that was taking place and which had not been witnessed during the past 2500 years. He said the entire nation is optimistic that the government would be able to develop the economy and ensure them to leave a prosperous life.
The Welcome address on this occasion was made by Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. The Minister said that that this Exhibition gives the public a obtain a clear awareness on the journey towards making the country “Asia’s Miracle”. The entire nation was described in the past as a failed country.
But the Minister underlined that the situation has now changed. Media Secretary W.B> Ganegala, Information Director General Prof. Ariyaratne Ethugala and heads of media establishments were present at the opening ceremony.
