Rain curtails play in Galle Test

Skipper Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena hammered contrasting half centuries before heavy rain brought an end to the proceedings early with Sri Lanka on 165 for 3 in the opening Test match against the West Indies at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.
Left hander Sangakkara raced to a sparkling half century from just 45 deliveries inclusive of nine boundaries and went on to make a top score of 73 before he was bowled by Dwayne Bravo.
Sangakkara also put on a fifty run partnership for the third wicket with former captain Mahela Jayawardena who played a more responsible innings to be unbeaten on 51 from 91 deliveries inclusive of five boundaries.
