A judge has sentenced a man to life in prison without parole after his conviction in the death of his estranged wife.
The Anderson Independent-Mail reported an Oconee County jury deliberated several hours before finding 25-year-old David Chavez guilty of murder on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Chavez strangled his wife, Wendoli, then stabbed her once after she stopped by to pick up her mail at their Seneca home in October 2009. He then called 911.
Authorities say Chavez was angry because his estranged wife was seeing another man.
Chavez's attorney argued the killing was in self-defense.
