NTSB discussing cause of SC Learjet crash

Apr 6, 2010 4:09:00 AM - thestate.com
Federal officials are discussing why a Learjet hurtled off the end of a South Carolina runway, causing a fiery accident that killed four people and injured two celebrities.

The National Transportation Safety Board meets in Washington on Tuesday to determine probable cause for the September 2008 crash at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

The crash killed four and left Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM seriously injured. DJ AM later died of a drug overdose.

The pilots were trying to abort takeoff. Investigators say the plane's reverse thrusters - devices on the back of jet engines that divert thrust forward to help slow the plane - were not in the right position.

A summary of the NTSB's final report will be online after the meeting ends.
