Religious ceremonies mark President’s second term inauguration

Religious functions are being held in the main places of worship to mark the inauguration of the President’s second term of office this morning.

The Jaya Priritha was chanted at the Sri Maha Bodhi premises this morning. It was conducted under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana the Ven. Dr. Pallegama Sirinivasa thera. Deputy Minister S.M. Chandrasena participated in the function.

The Jaya Piritha was also chanted was held near the Colombo Fort Railway Station to invoke blessings on the President. 120 members of the Maha Sangha participated in the chanting. Ministers Susil Premajayanth and Kumara Welgama were present on the occasion.

A special Pahan Pooja was held at the Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya. It was organized by several Government sector organizations under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the temple the Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara thera.

Special Islamic religious observances were held at the Jumma Mosque in Maradana to mark the occasion. It was organized by Minister A.H.M. Fowzi. Minister Basil Rajapaksa was among among the Parliamentarians present.
