President Rajapaksa assumes his second term of office reaffirming lasting national unity and sustainable peace. He was sworn-in this morning at a colourful but brief ceremony.
The President took oaths at the auspicious time of 10.16 this morning. Chief Justice Ashoka de Silva administered the oaths to the people’s leader who received a mandate to fulfill the aspirations of a nation and thereby making them a reality.
The swearing-in took place amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha and in the presence of many Heads of States and special envoys, while leaders of all faiths and all Sri Lanka people offered their prayers and extended blessings of the dawn of a new era in Sri Lanka’s history.
The highlight of today’s grand post swearing-in celebrations was the military parade, a 21-gun salute, a fly-past by Sri Lanka Air Force jets, a special display by Sri Lanka Navy and a cultural display held at the Galle Face Green. The event was made colourful by a Cultural Display of children of many schools.
