China pledges continued support for the development of places of religious places in Sri Lanka. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne made this revelation after a discussion with a Chinese deputation.
The Prime Minister opined that China has given a pledge to develop places of religious worship and with regard to other religious activities. He said that China had already made a major contribution to Sri Lanka’s development process.
A Chinese delegation headed by the Minister of Religious Affairs Wong Shuo met the Prime Minister at Visumpaya. The Chinese Religious Affairs Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka had the ability to play a pivotal role in the protection of world Buddhist heritages. He assured their support to improve the places of worship in the island. Wong Shuo emphasized that China would continue to provide assistance to Sri lanka in bringing peace to the world via a Buddhist background. The Prime Minister appreciated the support extended by China for religious renaissance and the massive development that was taking place in the country. He underlined the need to further firm up friendship between Sri Lanka and China and its maintenance based on a strong foundation.
