The National Trade Union Center (NTUC) said that its national steering committee would meet today (22) to decide on the action to be taken to win the Rs. 9,000 salary increase.
The NTUC says the government was not going to grant the required salary increase of Rs. 9,000 in its 2011 budget, which is to be presented to parliament today.
NTUC Convener, Samantha Koralearachchi said the NTUC’s national steering committee would meet today to decide on the action to be taken to win the demand of a Rs. 9,000 salary increase.
“The government will not be allowed to mislead the working masses by offering some small amount as an increment. Given the increase in the cost of living, the government must grant a salary increase of Rs. 9,000,” he said.
According to Koralearachchi, the NTUC together with other trade unions would gear to take massive trade union action to win the demands.
