A new, 8-day-old baboon is now on display at the Riverbanks Zoo.
The Hamadryas baboon baby was born to Imi and Makale.
Imi now has five offspring, Makale two. The pair had another baby last April that died shortly after birth, the zoo reported. Prior to that event, the last baboon baby at Riverbanks was 25 years ago, the zoo said.
"The addition of offspring will add even more energy to the exhibit," said assistant curator of mammals Sue Pfaff.
Pfaff said the newcomer has been accepted by the troop and its parents are showing good parenting skills.
