Don’t underestimate us! seems to be the message that the Wonderful Windies seem to convey. One says ‘wonderful’ because of the spirit, the glamour and the dash that the Windies have, for over half a century, brought to the game of cricket.
The West Indians who were once a ruthless bunch of cricketers when led by Clive Lloyd and Vivian Richards and in the shadows of the illustrious Worrell, Weeks and Wolcott - arrived here with a bunch of inexperienced cricketers and were expected to be outclassed by the Lankans, especially after the Lankan victories against the Aussies.
But, what Lankan fans saw was an exact opposite to the expectations. Thanks to the rain and some butter fingered catching by the West Indies fielders saw Sri Lanka save face and just scrape a draw in the First of Three Tests at the Galle International Stadium.
