Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara christened the new R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium with a classic century on the second day of the Second Test against the West Indies.
When the second day’s play came to a premature end like it did on the first day, Sri Lanka were 294 for 5 with Kumar Sangakkara unbeaten on 135 made in 252 deliveries with 15 fours and one six. Prasanna Jayawardena was with him on 12. Only 233 minutes of play was possible before the heavens opened up.
With Sri Lanka badly placed on 34 for three, Sangakkara batted with great responsibility and was an example as he played a very disciplined innings to score his 24th Test three figure score. He excelled with his trade mark cuts and elegant cover drives.
