Plans are underway to enforce the ban on polythene and narcotics during the Sripada Pilgrimage season.
Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province W.J.M. Lokubandara has instructed the officials to enforce the ban on alcohol to protect the sanctity of the place of worship. The Governor gave the instructions at a discussion held at the Ratnapura District Secretariat with regard to the facilities to be provided during the Sripada pilgrimage season. The pilgrimage season begins on the Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day. The procession from the Galpottawala Sripada Vihara to the Sripada will be conducted on the 19th morning. The Governor instructed the security authorities to mete out maximum punishment to the persons who behave in a disrespectful manner in the sacred area, despite their status. The discussion also focused on providing resting places, sanitary facilities, health services, electricity and security measures. Chief Incumbent of the Sripada Ven. Dampahala Seelananda thera was amongst the officials who participated.
