India’s External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna is due in Sri Lanka today. His visit is believed to bring a number of benefits to Sri Lanka.
The Indian Foreign Minister and his delegation will arrive in Sri Lanka strengthening the friendship between the two countries. They are expected to tour areas such as Jaffna, Medawachchiya and Hambantota and observe the development activities. Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that India is expected to donate 250 million US dollars for the project to construct houses for the people affected by the war.
Three rail tracks developed with Indian assistance will also be inaugurated under the patronage of the Indian Foreign Minister. The rail tracks were developed with a sum of 800 million US dollars. The rail tracks runs from Omanthai to Palai, Medawachchiya to Madhu and from Madhu to Talai-mannar. Two consular offices of the Indian High Commission are due to be inaugurated in Jaffna and Hambantota. The Indian government has pledged assistance for the development of the Kankesanturai Harbour and the Palali airport. He is expected to spend two days in Sri Lanka.
