President Rajapaksa has said that a proper health service is essential for the development of the country. He emphasised that the Government is prepared to grant its due place for Health service.
The President said a country cannot progress by neglecting the health sector. The service rendered by health personnel cannot be under estimated. The Government is prepared to overcome the shortcomings in the health sector in the march towards progress. He said the Government was spending a colossal sum on the health sector with the intention meeting the desires of the public.
The President was speaking at a ceremony organised to hand over letters of appointment to health professionals. 50 dentists, 78 pharmacists and 1658 nurses received appointments from the President. The President pointed out that defence and health are essential services. He called on all employees to be committed towards a free health service. Several Parliamentarians including Minister Maithripala Sirisena and representatives of Trade Unions were present.
