The Sri Lanka Navy has finalized all arrangements to commemorate its Diamond Jubilee with pride.
The Navy is commemorating its 60th Anniversary along with the dedication made towards protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland, injecting strength to rout the ruthless terrorists who plagued the country for 30 years. It will commemorate its Anniversary on the 9th of next month by holding religious observances countrywide in memory of their members who made supreme sacrifices. The awarding of colours acclaiming the services of the Navy is slated to be held under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. Arrangements are also in place to stage an exhibition for seven days, which will be open to the public. Six ships representing the navies of Russia, China, India, Bangladesh and Singapore will call on the Port of Colombo on the 7th.
Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe said his counterparts and representatives from 22 navies will also attend the ceremonies associated with the anniversary. A special conference will be held on December 8 with foreign naval Commanders and officers on maritime security. They will be also taken to China Bay on an inspection tour. Briefing the media today he said senior Navy officers will visit families of war heroes who made their supreme sacrifice and also disabled war heroes. They will also ensure to note down their problems and difficulties so that the Ministry and the Navy will be able to provide necessary solutions. Vice Admiral Samarasinghe added that a special gift pack will be provided to them to mark the diamond jubilee.
