The D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Oration has been delivered at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. Mr. Rajapaksa was a veteran politician who has made a notable contribution to Sri Lankan politics.
The function commenced with the garlanding of the D.A. Rajapaksa statue by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. Chancellor of the Uva-wellassa University the Ven. Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha thera chaired the event. Dr. Laksiri Fernando delivered the Memorial Oration titled “the role of the North and East in the National Development of Sri Lanka”. Two books authored by Amarasinghe Kudagal-ara were presented to the President. Members of the Maha Sangha and clergy of other religions participated in the occasion. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa were among the relatives present. Diplomats, Several Parliamentarians were also present.
