Authorities say a Florida man visiting relatives in South Carolina has died after he was shot by a security officer responding to a fight at his family's home.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports 42-year-old James Piotrowski of Stuart, Fla., died shortly after midnight Wednesday at his aunt and uncle's home in Sheldon.
Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner says Richard Santee argued with Piotrowski and got out a long-barreled revolver. Tanner says others in the house heard shots and called neighborhood security. The officer came in and shot Piotrowski, who was standing over Santee holding the gun.
Tanner says Piotrowski was shot twice and died at the scene. Santee had also been shot twice and was flown to a hospital. There was no word on his condition.
No charges have been filed.
