The government is currently looking at the possibility of commissioning a High Capacity Power Transmission Link (HCPTL) in a joint venture with India.
Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka has said the government was looking at commissioning a HCPTL with the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).
The proposal was reportedly initiated during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to India in February this year.
Ranawaka has said that it was decided to install the HCPTL via Mannar and Madurai at preliminary discussions.
A joint feasibility study is currently being carried out at a cost of US$ 3 million and a final decision on the mega project is to be made after the report is finalized next year.
