Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe the Jaffna Security Forces Commander has been awarded the prestigious Gusi Peace Prize for 2010.
Major General Hathurusinghe was named as one of the 19 2010 laureates for his contribution to Sri Lanka’s peace process. The Gusi Peace Prize is a Philippines based award, recognizing individuals working toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity. The annual Gusi Peace Prize Awards are given to several individuals each year by the Manila-based Gusi Peace Prize Foundation in recognition of their exemplary contributions to peace and human rights, science, politics, arts and literature, medicine and variety of other fields. Major General Hathurusinghe joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1980 as a Cadet Officer. He took the leadership as the Jaffna Security Forces Commander in February 2010.
As the Security Forces Commander in Jaffna Major General Hathurusinghe, has taken the leadership in many community development activities spearheading government policy in liaison with all other agencies including building houses and promoting livelihood programmes for the displaced.
