The Disaster Management Centre warns that several areas in Kandy are prone to landslides due to the prevailing heavy showers.
The Disaster Management Centre said that several places in Kandy, Senkadagala, Ampitiya, Teldeniya and Udispathuwa threatened with landslides. It said landslides were reported in Udu-dumbara, Deltota, Yatinuwara and Patha-hewaheta. It further said that civilian life has been obstructed in Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Panwila and several other cities due to heavy mist.
Meanwhile the water level of Menik Ganga has risen due to opening of six sluice gates of the Weheragala Reservoir. Tissamaharama Irrigation Engineer Amarajeeva Liyanage said a minor flood situation is reported around Menik Ganga and Sella-Kataragama area due to opening of sluice gates.
