The Indian Government pledged its support for several development projects strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna while launching the construction of the Northern rail track in Mannar yesterday said India was prepared to commence the ferry service between the two countries. The 416 million dollar project was launched with the participation of the Indian and Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministers.
Speaking further Mr. Krishna said India was prepared to give its maximum support for Sri Lanka’s development drive. He further said that the recommencement of ferry service would usher a new era of friendship between the two countries. A distinguished gathering including Indian Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao, Parliamentarians and North Central Province Governor were present on the occasion.
