Defence Ministry to move to Battaramulla

The Government will shift the Defence Ministry and the Tri Forces Headquarters to a 58 acre land near the Parliamentary complex, Battaramulla. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said this was decided as the present location which houses the institutions has a high commercial value and could be utilized for viable investments beneficial to the country.
Speaking at the opening of the Fire Extinguishing and Disaster Relief Centre in Kalutara, Saturday, he said that the Shangrila Corporation in China has come forward to build a luxury hotel at the location with total investment exceeding Rs 50,000 million.
