The Digicel Fiji Barbarians proved their class in the Carlton Sevens as they won the Cup Championship final for the second consecutive year and walked away with the cash prize of 25,000 US dollars by hammering giant killers Spain who were the surprise package of the tournament by 38 points to 7 in the final.
The Fiji superstars who had the awesome combination of massive power combined with sheer pace were too hot to handle for the gutsy Spaniards who tried their best to defend their try line in soggy conditions. The tournament was organized by the Tharunyata Hetak Organization.
The powerful Mitiseli Namisi powered his way through the Spanish defence by crashing through to score two successive tries which were converted. Prop Forward Waqa scored next for Fiji and the score was at 19- 0. Spain who had several breaks but were unfortunate not to score due to damp conditions at last scored in the dying seconds of the first half as Ryan Levroux ran through the normally impregnable Fiji defence to score a magnificent try. At half time Fiji led by 19 points to 7.
