Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has told legislators that he is not prepared to exploit Sri Lanka resources. He pledged his whole hearted support for the development drive.
The visiting Pakistani President visited Parliament today. After arriving at the Parliamentary Complex in a colourful motorcade, he was warmly greeted by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. After a cordial meeting with Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Mr. Zardari met the Parliamentarians.
Addressing Parliamentarians, the Pakistani President said:
“It is indeed a pleasure to be in a nation which has long and historical links in our part of the world. But Pakistan is proud of its Sri Lankan friends and is honoured to be here today. Well you have had a tremendous victory after a bitter struggle. It is now time for Sri Lanka to enter modern technology and make safe cities. Today no country is safe from terrorism. I myself and my families are victims of terrorism. My message to the Sri Lankan people and the business of the Sri Lanka would be to be very careful. Trading in commodities, doing a barter trade where I do not pay in Dollars and you do not pay me in Dollars. We pay each other and enhance our trade. Pakistan has an abundance of cement and you have an abundance of tea. We as friends of Sri Lanka would want to be friends forever.”
