Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said that the Government has presented a budget granting relief to the masses. Joint in the Committee Stage debate in Parliament today, he pointed out that the budget had not been prepared targeting votes, as the UNP had done.
The Prime Minister said that the budget had not been presented to satisfy the masses for the time being and bank on their votes. This was what had happened in the past 62 years. Budgets had been presented with the anticipation of getting the votes of the people. The vision of the UNP and the Opposition are opposing the budget with the purpose of achieving political mileage and gathering the masses round them. He called on everyone to join hands in building a country in which everyone could live in peace sans political difference. The Prime Minister was optimistic that before long they would be able to make Sri Lanka “Asia’s Miracle.”
