WikiLeaks revelations will not strain relations – US

Nov 30, 2010 10:22:36 AM - itnnews.lk

The United States says that whatever information was revealed by WikiLeaks, it would not affect relations between the US and Sri Lanka. US has assured continued support to Sri Lanka.

WikiLeaks had recently released thousands of documents on US relations with the world community. It was reported that it included secret documents dispatched by the US Embassy on Sri Lanka. In a statement, US Ambassador Patricia Butenis said the U.S. has worked hard to assist the government and people of Sri Lanka to strengthen security, to further economic development, and to foster political reconciliation.

Ambassador Butenis said revealing a person’s identity could have serious repercussions: She added that the US will continue to work to strengthen our partnership with Sri Lanka and make progress on the issues that are important for our two countries,” Butenis said adding that she is in close contact with the Sri Lankan government to make sure both countries continue to focus on the issues and tasks at hand.
