President Rajapaksa has arrived in London. He has undertaken the visit at the invitation of the Oxford University.
The President reached London early this morning, Sri Lanka time. He is due to address the Oxford Union for the second time on Thursday the 2nd. In 2008 President Rajapaksa addressed the Oxford Union at its invitation and the Sri Lanka Society of Oxford University. During its 187-year old history from 1823, it is only the President who had been invited twice to address the Oxford Union. This is a notable feature. This is mainly attributed to the President being identified as an affable leader in the Asian region with a clear vision. The President will clarify in his address on the programme he mooted to rout terrorism from the island and the future development planned in country which is totally devoid terrorism.
The topic of his address in 2008 was “Strategy towards Empowering the Rural Economy of Sri Lanka”. Oxford is one of the oldest Universities in the world It had moulded many scholars as well as political leaders. The Oxford Union from time to time invites renowned leaders to talk on various important topics.
