The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is planning to a raid for the apprehension of persons who are running unregistered institutions involved in the import, repair and sale of mobile phones.
According to latest statistics issued by the Central Bank there were 16.6 million mobile phone subscribers during the third quarter of this year. This amount has further increased by 3.2 million during the last 12 months. With the sudden wake of the mobile phone industry, repairing and selling centres have flourished.
Accordingly, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission emphasizes that they are planning to launch a raid to nab illegal mobile phone institutions. In addition, the Commission has raided 15 Cable Television Stations which are functioning without licenses have also been raided. 14 of them were being carried out in Jaffna District.
