Attempts made by LTTE loyalists and JVP activists to demonstrate against the President’s London visit have been unsuccessful.
The President arrived at the London Heathrow Airport on Monday night at the invitation of the Oxford Union. A number of LTTE loyalist organizations including the Tamil Youth Organisation and about 300 activists of the Democratic national Alliance including the JVP staged a protest at the arrival point when the President reached the Airport. Reports from London confirmed that a UNP Parliamentarian who endorsed this demonstration had also participated in it. However, they failed in their attempt to make a show of their opposition to President Rajapaksa, not knowing that important visitors such as Heads of State and their delegations do not use the normal passenger Arrivals Point.” Reports emanating from London said that ordinary air passengers had to encounter difficulties because of this protest. They expressed their disgust over the protest.
