Sluice Gates of many Reservoirs have been opened following torrential rain experience in catchment areas.
Tissamaharama Irrigation Engineer Amarajeeva Liyanage Said six sluice gates of Lunugamvehera Reservoir were opened this morning. He said the sluice gates had to be opened following heavy showers experienced in Hambantota. Earlier six sluice gates were opened. Four sluice gates have been opened upto nine inches each while two gates were opened up to six inches. The Engineer said that water was released at the rate of 4400 cubic feet to Kirindi Oya.
20 sluice gates of the Inginimitiya, Thabbowa and Rajangana Reservoirs have also been opened. 10 gates of the Thabbowa tank were opened upto 6 inches while six gates of the Inginimitiya tank were opened upto 12 inches. Two sluice gates of the Rajangana tank in the capacity of 24 inches and another two gates upto 36 inches have been opened. These waters now release to the Kala-oya. Hence its water level also has increased. The Disaster Management Centre said that the water level of Deduru Oya may rise as heavy rain was experienced yesterday.
