Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena appraised Parliament this morning about the cancellation of the President’s address to the Oxford Union. He made clarifications on the situation which had surfaced in Britain.
The Minister said it should be mentioned that the President will not be deterred in the face of attempts made by the traitors who in publicly or secretly worked towards the cancellation of the President’s address. Minister Dinesh Gunawardena raised a privileged question. He said that a member of Parliament who had taken oaths according to the Constitution, had been at the London Airport along with banned outfits, to protest the President’s arrival. He emphasized that an inquiry should be carried out against this particular MP for breaching the oath he had taken. The Minister told the House that in future such activities would not be tolerated in the country. He added that the Parliament had the full authority to carry out an inquiry into such traitors who are working against the country at a time when the President had made an open invitation for them to join hands with the Government.
