President Rajapaksa meets British Defence Secretary in London.
Their meeting took place yesterday. The discussions between the President and Dr. Liam Fox dealt at length on the development assistance provided by Britain and the process of devolution of power. The President said that his Government has identified the need to further strengthen local bodies in the devolution process. He pointed out that the Government was working out a plan to grant more opportunities for the masses at the grassroots level to get actively involved in the political and administrative process. Tamil political parties willing to work in collaboration with the Government have already begun discussions.
The President also pointed out that the implementation of proposals after soliciting views of the people will be more productive than imposing solutions. The British Defence Secretary clarified the assistance Sri Lanka will be receiving from his Government for Northern development as well as other development activities. The British Minister directed attention to investment opportunities available in Sri lanka.
