A 33-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when the minivan he was driving was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on Wolfe Road near Gadsden.
Richland County coroner Gary Watts identified the driver as Lazaro Noriega Lopez, of Wolfe Road.
Lopez attempted to cross the train tracks around 7:12 p.m. and was struck by the westbound train. He was trapped in the van and pronounced dead at the scene.
Wolfe Road is off Bluff Road almost due south of McEntire Joint Air Base.
