Demonstrations in Colombo supporting President

Dec 3, 2010 10:08:27 AM - itnnews.lk

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators who gathered in Colombo vociferously stated that neither local nor alien conspirators would be permitted to sabotage the President’s programme of winning the motherland.

This massive demonstration organised to express full support to the President was staged in Colombo today. The working class which gathered opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station this morning with one voice expressed their protest to the efforts made by local and alien conspirators attempting to sabotage the President’s programmes. They emphatically mentioned that no one would be permitted to sabotage the massive development programme mooted in the country under a prudent leadership. A noteworthy feature was the involvement of members of the Maha Sangha and other religious leaders in this demonstration.

In the meantime, another well attended protest campaign organised by the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna was staged opposite the British High Commission in Colombo. The demonstrators strongly protested against the obstacles conspirators hurled at the President in London. They emphasised that they were ready to array themselves for any initiative on behalf of the motherland.

Jathika Nidahas Peramuna leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing the demonstrators said it was improper for the British to allow the demonstrators to display the flag of the LTTE which is a banned outfit.

Meanwhile, another agitation was held in the Battaramulla town today. They expressed their full support to the President. Masses from Kaduwela participated in this protest campaign
