Dec 5, 2010 11:35:57 AM - itnnews.lk

Action is being taken to prosecute heads of state establishments who had been maintaining dengue mosquito breeding grounds. The Health Minister has already issued the relevant instructions to the National Dengue Control Programme.

Minister Maithripala Sirisena said he will forward a list of state institutions which had been maintaining dengue mosquito breeding grounds in their compounds. The fourth dengue prevention week proclaimed by the Ministry got off the grounds last Thursday and will continue until Tuesday. Under this programme mosquito breeding sites are to be located and anyone deemed to be responsible for creating an environment conducive for mosquitoes to breed would be penalized to the fullest extent. Compounds of several state institutions and schools had already come in for inspection. It had been found that may such locations had not properly adverted to the fact of controlling the spread of the mosquito. The Ministry said action would be adopted to institute legal action against them.
