Several parts of the country are severely impacted by the inclement weather. Heavy rain had been experienced during the last few hours.
Floods have been reported in most areas due to the inclement weather. Several areas in Batticaloa, Wellavali, Vakare, Sittandy and Kalawanchikudi have gone under water.
According to our correspondents, some areas at Warakamura and Dehipitiya in Matale are flooded. Families impacted by floods have been evacuated to safer locations.
Heavy fog is reported in the Hatton area. The Police have urged drivers to be careful in using the Colombo – Hatton and Colombo – Nuwara Eliya roads.
The inclement weather has also effected the Galle, Matara and Moneragala Districts. Sluice Gates of many reservoirs had to be opened as these had reached the spill level. The Sluice gates of the Bowatenne, Randenigala and Kotmale reservoirs have been opened. The Puttalam Disaster Management Centre said that the Sluice gates of the Inginimitiya, Tabbowa and Rajangana reservoirs will continue to remain opened. The Centre pointed out that 710 families in Chilaw, Kalpitiya, Wanathawilluwa and Dankotuwa areas are displaced by floods.
