The JVP has said the lack of a proper drug policy has resulted in the constant shortage of essential drugs and medical equipment.
JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told a press conference that the Senaka Bibile drug policy had to be implemented with immediate effect.
He added that since the government has not made sufficient budgetary allocations to the sector, the state hospitals continue to run short of essential drugs and medical equipment.
According to Herath, this situation has resulted in doctors having to suspend surgeries on patients.
Meanwhile, also addressing the press conference, JVP Western Provincial Councilor Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the Maharagama cancer hospital is in need of medical equipment to treat cancer patients.
