The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association has underlined that they will neither hike fares nor make demands for a hike.
Briefing the media in Colombo today, its Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said that they had made no request in relation to a bus fare hike. The national policy was operative every year in June with effect from 2002. If a change in the fare was to be effected, it would be done only if there was an upward revision of fuel prices. There should be a drop in the fare, if the price of fuel dropped by about four percent. However, Gemunu Wijertne pointed out if the fuel price increased by more than four percent, then there should be an increase in bus fares.
