All Sluice gates of main reservoirs have been opened with the heavy rain experienced in the country. As such, the Irrigation Department has warned the public to be vigilant.
The water level of the Randenigala reservoir increased with the opening of the Sluice gates of the Victoria reservoir. As a result, the Sluice gates of the Randenigala and Rantambe reservoirs had to be opened. The Irrigation Department claims that reservoirs in ten Mahaweli Zones and 25 tanks are overflowing with the release of water from these reservoirs through the canal-ways. Problems will not surface in the supply of water for agricultural purposes with the receipt of water after 10 years. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said this would also help for the continuous generation of power. The Minister made this reference undertaking an observation tour of the Victoria and Randenigala reservoirs.
In the meantime, the Sluice gate of Kalawewa has been opened following the heavy rain experienced in Anuradhapura. According to the Irrigation Department, the water level of Malwatu Oya may rise.
