Government Parliamentarians have accused the United National Party of encouraging alien forces. These Parliamentarians accused that UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya in a statement to a week-end newspaper had betrayed the Army.
Addressing the media, Minister Susil Premajayantha pointed out that particularly Karu Jayasuriya in the past attempted to make an impression that he maintained good governance, and was a clean politician. It is only now his true position has come to light. He had waited for a time to make this announcement. The Minister queried as on whose behalf he had made this statement. He had willfully and clearly orchestrated this statement against the country and its patriotic citizens and against the troops, to fulfill the needs of alien forces. The Minister said that what Karu Jayasuriya should have done was not to issue such a statement but testify before the Lessons Learns Commission. He said they were challenging Mr. Jayasuriya to make such statements before the Commission.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena noted that when taking into consideration the statements of Karu Jayasuriya and the behaviour of LTTE loyalists abroad, there is a doubt for them whether they were going on a certain track. As a country, the Minister emphasized that they will now have to identify that there are patriots and traitors in the country and work accordingly.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella underlined that they have now entered a political exercise. It is one of their rights. However, it is very clear that they don’t have a proper method of doing so. He mentioned that even Karu Jayasuriya who called himself as a gentleman, had got involved in this sinful programme within the UNP to grab power.
