The Colombo Harbour has handled a record number of containers during the year.
The Harbour had handled a total of 2 million containers by yesterday. The handling of container at the Harbour commenced in 1973. Operations increased by 26 percent during this year in comparison to last year. The operations were carried out successfully despite the global economic crisis.
During last August the harbour handled the highest number of more than 200,000 containers. The facilities at the harbour are being increased and the Ports Authority hopes to handle 4 million containers by the end of this year.
