Are you a dynamic individual above 18 years willing to put your hand up to support our team to victory and help showcase Sri Lanka?
The World Cup Secretariat (WCS) is calling on committed and passionate people to apply for the volunteering programme and be part of history in the making.
A volunteer is someone who commits his/her time and energy for the benefit of others and does so freely, through personal choice and self motivation. World over in mega sporting events volunteers form the support mechanism that contributes to the overall success of the event.
The WCS is looking at appointing over 150 volunteers in the Hambantota, Pallekele and Colombo regions. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles at the venues and venue cities and include pre-game (specialist roles) and game-time volunteers (generalist roles). A full time commitment during the match days is a pre-requisite but the WCS can work around personal schedules to get the best candidates. Minimum qualifications apply which will be available, along with a registration form, on this site shortly.
We are hoping to give maximum opportunity for enthusiastic and self motivated young people to be part of the spectacular experience. We are targeting school leavers, University students and graduates, as well as experienced corporate workers. Regional recruitment drives and walk-in interviews will be organized between 9th and 20th December 2010.
The volunteers will be ambassadors of this cricket loving nation, promoting our image to the global audience. The key objective is to provide all stakeholders of the matches, teams, officials, VIP’s, sponsors, media personnel, spectators, invitees, service providers and members of the community a great experience of hospitality and culture in true Sri Lankan style.
Whatever your role, you are helping us welcome the visitors to your venue city. Being a volunteer may be challenging at times but the rewards are invaluable – the experience, exposure, the networking opportunity and working for a global organization will help enhance your skills. All volunteers will be provided with uniforms and food during duty hours.
The flip side of the coin is the sustainability aspect of the volunteer programme. We want to leave a legacy of capacity building in our volunteers. Therefore apart from the practical experience we are also providing skills development workshops on open enrollment which will include Leadership Development, Team Work and Character Building. Additionally a limited number of scholarships will be awarded to outstanding volunteers to develop a vocational skill or English proficiency.
Applications will be opened shortly on this site. Interviews and selection will be done from mid December. There are limited slots we encourage interested individuals to apply early. Suitable candidates will be selected on a first come basis, based on their alignment to our requirements.
Being part of the volunteer programme does not guarantee that you will get to see the matches – we need people to work in various operational capacities and in a variety of job roles that will not bring you in direct contact with the game in progress. But this transcends such motives, for the right individual it is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of one of the biggest sporting extravaganzas in the world.
The world is coming to Sri Lanka ……. As Sri Lankans are we ready to put up our hand to showcase our pride. Let’s be part of the glory express supporting our team to victory!
