Rain continue to wreak havoc in the country

Heavy rain is continuing in the country. It has affected a number of regions.

The Irrigation Department said that all tanks in the Puttalam District have reached the spill level. The District has around 1000 small tanks and all of them have reached the spill level excluding a few. With the opening of sluice gates in the Inginimitiya, Rajangana and Thabbowa tanks all small tanks in the Puttalam District have been filled. 1875 people in the District are displaced due to floods. Relief is being continuously provided.

Landslides have been reported in Ampitiya, Gannoruwa, Uda- Peradeniya, and Nugawela areas in the Kandy District. Transportation and normal life has been affected due to disruption of electricity supply and fallen trees.

The Army is operating a special boat service due to flooding of the Batticaloa –Kiran-Thoppigala road. Around 25,000 people are affected due to floods in the area.
