Government emphasizes “No war crimes”

Dec 7, 2010 10:19:53 AM - itnnews.lk

House Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva has underlined that no member of the Security Forces had committed war crimes. He was making a special statement to Parliament.

Referring to a statement made by UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, the Minister said that it supported the campaign launched in the world with the defeat suffered by the LTTE. As such, the Minister said he clearly wanted to mention on behalf of the Government that not a single person who totally dedicated towards the humanitarian operations to liberate the country from terrorism had committed any war crime. He said this was the clear stand of the Government. He recalled that the Government’s stand had been frequently intimated to the world. If Karu Jayasuriya was saying that war crimes had taken place in the country, there is a Commission which is now operative in the country to which he could give evidence. He called on him to give evidence before this Lessons Learnt Commission even tomorrow. The Minister added that they were concerned over the further confirmation of the UNP policy of attacking this Government in collaboration with LTTE sympathizers and international conspirators.
